The Oath

Inspired by Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings", this work in two movements for wind band is an exploration of human connection and the truth that there are always strings attached.  It is no simple love story, but a story of friendship, hope, desire, passion, sadness, pain, and a love that endures.

The Oath is a two-part story of a love that can never be and a love that endures the joys and pains of time and circumstance. While these two stories may seem unrelated, they are quite intertwined. Though the music ends, there is no happy ending. No matter the outcome, pain is the lasting stain on our souls.
